The Ktunaxa Nation Government Building and Museum will be a symbolic representation for the four nations that make up the Ktunaxa Nation Council Society. Located adjacent to the St. Eugene Resort on the St. Mary’s Reserve, the facility will firmly establish a central government complex, housing the council chamber, government departments, museum and leasable office space.
The complex is organized around a circular courtyard similar to the arrangement of tipis around a circle. Each government program has a place around the circle reinforcing a collective and democratic approach to government. The museum and archive surround the council chamber located at the main entrance. Integrated sustainable strategies include: a bio-mass cogeneration plant, solar thermal and voltaic technologies, passive ventilation, and a green roof. A cross laminated timber (CLT) system will be used to source local lumber. This system will minimize material waste and speed up construction time.
